We’ve all been asked the classic question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For me, the answer was always, “I want to be an artist!”
I’ve been obsessed with the arts ever since I could pick up a pencil. Watching old home videos of my sisters and me opening Christmas gifts, I can’t help but smile when I see myself getting ridiculously excited over those art kits—you know, the ones in those flimsy plastic cases packed with colored pencils, crayons, markers, and more.
Aside from drawing and painting, I’m all about crafts, especially crochet. I learned to crochet at a young age from my mom and grandma. I started with the usual hats and scarves—one year in high school, all my friends got a crochet scarf for Christmas. Luckily, my friend circle was on the smaller side!
Before long, I craved a bigger challenge, so I dove into making dolls and stuffed animals. Most recently, I’ve been getting creative by crocheting with recycled plastic bags.
Graphic design was like finding the missing puzzle piece in my quest for a creative life. After a little breather post-high school, I eagerly jumped into the graphic design program at The Art Institute of York in 2007, proudly tossing my cap in 2009.
But let’s talk about post-grad life—trying to snag a graphic design gig during the recession fallout was like trying to find a unicorn. So, what did I do? I went back to school, this time at good ol’ Penn State, to dabble in marketing.
